Koneswaram also called Thirukonamalai Konesar Temple (The Temple of the Thousand Pillars) is a religious pilgrimage center for Hindu people. The Koneswaram temple is located on top of a rock where the surrounding is covered by the sea. Hindu pilgirms comes here to worship Lord Eiswara/Shiva. The temple was destroyed in colonial religious attacks between 1622 and 1624 and with its debris a fort was built. Some of the remain sculptures and ruins were discovered underwater. The side of the temple you can find lover's leap which is a deep steep that is covered by rocks and the sea. The name was derived based on a romantic couple believed to die with the risk of a fatal fall and the possibility of a deliberate jump.
